An optional journey, or an unavoidable one?

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala — Age 62, Networth 5.8 billion, Died of Cardiac arrest. A great human being who left little too early.

Let’s look at this. A human being goes through his life continuously trying to expand, isn’t it?

He believes that by enhancing his lifestyle, he is enhancing himself.

He puts in tremendous efforts to expand in areas, which he knows or is comfortable with.

A salesman aspiring to be a Manager, then a Head of the dept, then a CEO — EXPANSION

A sportsperson seeing this in terms of accumulating medals in bigger events or in terms of breaking records set by others or by himself — EXPANSION

A politician expanding in terms of positions held or in terms of his ability to influence more people — EXPANSION

A businessman — in terms of his business or wealth — EXPANSION

Seen in totality, this is a case of ‘lifestyle’, being mistaken as ‘life’, isn’t it?

So, when does someone see this distinction?

Sadly, most don’t.

This goes on and on, until they fall dead one day.

People are simply Busy. No rhyme or reason. Just Busy.

They accumulate, either in terms of body weight, or knowledge, or wealth, or relationships and it’s all taken away or rather they get taken away. Either ways, all accumulation is gone.

Now, it so happens that a few of them, at some point of time, start thinking about the purpose of all this accumulation. They reflect on what do they really want from life?

When people see a dead body, they say, ”He/she left”. Who left?

If the body is not the person, then who actually is the person?

When all knowledge is just accumulated from his surroundings, what is his identity? Who is he?

Enter Spirituality

When these fundamental questions start haunting the person, we can say that he is ‘CURIOUS about the nature of his life. Heard about curiosity killed the cat? It’s true. Curiosity can literally kill.

So, this curiosity about his origin, if sustained for a certain period of time brings along with it a certain strong emotion. We call this emotion ‘LONGING’.

As this longing grows deep, he becomes restless and wants to get to the bottom of these questions. He is now open to looking at every source of information to quench his thirst. He admits that he doesn’t know and is open to know, irrespective of the source. A book, a stone, a mountain, a human being, or an earthworm. He doesn’t dismiss any.

He is open to Perceiving things as they are. We can now call him a ‘SEEKER’.

A seeker means one, whose has started on his inner journey, from ‘Logic to Perception’.

It’s only a matter of time, when these questions hit your inner core. That is when you know that the option was never there in the first place.

It was just that you were busy postponing it.

If you know that your time here is ‘LIMITED’, you will anyway ‘SEEK’.

Err, by the way, are you ready, or Busy?
